When she was young, Alexandra dreamed of becoming a teacher. As she got older, she thought she would become an author. (She had been devouring books for as long as she could remember.) By the time she reached university, she had joined the ranks of the campus newspaper, absorbing all she could about feature writing and news design. And after nearly five years in a professional newsroom, she found herself swept off to Beijing, China, to work as an English teacher and graphic designer.

So much of what Alexandra attributes her success to came through an openness to new opportunities. What started as a love of books evolved into an English literature degree. An interest in writing led Alexandra into her university’s newsroom, which then led to a publication design desk. Connections she made there led her to China, where she not only taught English but helped create an entire phonics-based reading library. Until recently, Alexandra has continued to employ everything she has learned so far to work as a freelance writer, designer, and editor.

Until 2024, Alexandra lived abroad with her husband and two adorable kittens. From China, they ventured to İzmir, Türkiye, where she balanced freelance work with a 200-hour yoga teacher training program. Indeed, she continued working for her China-based company, but has also connected with clients in book publishing, language course creation, and ESL education. Whenever she can, Alexandra also volunteers with nonprofits, using her design skills to help them promote their incredible work. At the end of 2024, she returned to the U.S., where she is now hoping to find more permanent employment with a company she hopes to thrive with.

Outside of her work, Alexandra spends her time pursuing creative interests in illustration. She is an avid hiker, but without mountains to summit, she’s happiest when on the yoga mat or a Pilates reformer. She is passionate about animal welfare, environmentalism, LGBTQ+ rights, and gender equality. Rarely is Alexandra without a book in her purse or a kitten on her lap. In fact, a cozy afternoon with kittens and a great book is Alexandra’s happy place.

TESTIMONIALS

“I’ve had the pleasure of working closely with Alexandra for over seven years, and I can confidently say she is one of the most talented and reliable graphic designers I’ve ever worked with. As Head of Design at Phunics, her creativity, vision, and attention to detail have been instrumental in helping our company grow and stand out in the marketplace.

Alexandra consistently delivers top-quality work, no matter the project’s scope or complexity, and always does so with remarkable efficiency. Her ability to balance multiple priorities while maintaining her cheerful and positive attitude is truly admirable. She is someone we can always count on to meet deadlines, exceed expectations, and bring fresh, innovative ideas to the table.

If you’re looking for a talented and polyvalent designer who is professional, trustworthy, and passionate about her work, I highly recommend Alexandra. It’s been a privilege to work alongside her, and I’m confident she will continue to be an asset wherever she goes.”

~ Jackling Wang, Marketing Manager at Phunics

“Alexandra is a breath of fresh air. She's passionate, dedicated, talented, intelligent, creative, witty and unique. She constantly pushes the limits - for herself and those she works with. She never settles and good is not enough for her. She expects the best of herself and if you don't bring it, she will let you know it. The scary aspect is that she hasn't reached her potential of how good she can be, as a designer or writer. Just don't ask her for what she thinks because she's humble. That's one of the best aspects of working with Alexandra is her quiet confidence. My time with her rekindled my passion and fire to be the best and challenge myself.”

~ Ian St. Clair, former editor at Prairie Mountain Publishing

“Alex is the glue of the Collegian newsroom. As both design editor and copy chief, she works directly with every desk. Her ability to juggle multiple tasks and maintain a high standard of professionalism would be admirable at any age. Equally impressive is her directness and work ethic. The company with Alex on its team is going to be more organized, efficient and credible because of her.”

~ Michael Humphrey, former advisor for the Rocky Mountain Collegian
